Here is the story. First, Jermichael Finley is on ESPN complaining to the effect of "where are the snow plows?". Then SI's Peter King tweets that our efforts at putting on "The Big Game" (lawsuit avoidance) were a debacle. I heard about this, not from following Mr. King, but from radio and television. This angered me greatly, and I sent the following tweets: "#peterking can go to hell" and "#peterking leave texas and don't come back". Mr.king responded: "RT @mr_slag: #peterking leave texas and don't come back ... Now is that any way to treat your guests?". I replied: "@SI_PeterKing for those that come here and complain about everything, yes. I don't go to your city and run it down.". I regret the tone and vitriol in these over the top comments made in anger and frustration.
Now, some points on this whole weather/tweet situation:
1. This is not the "hundred year storm" some officials have called it. Counting this year, I can think of at least 5 others in the last decade, including 2 last year. This is the every second or third year storm. These things don't usually last an entire week, so the duration is a day or two longer, but the content is not. I want that lie to stop. This leads directly to....
2. If you were elected to spend tax payer money and you spent it on a large amount of equipment that frequently sat idle for over a year, when needed was used for no more than 10 days a year, but still had to be maintained and staffed, would you expect to be re-elected? What else can a snow plow or sand truck be used for?
3. I do not think it is right to publicly criticize the people of a city/area for something beyond their control, such as the weather.
4. Guests have a responsibility to conduct themselves in a civil manner. Mr. King's and Mr. Finley's comments were made in international forums and came to me as a sucker punch. Apart from myself, has anyone else done or said anything they can take exception to? If so they should take responsibility for their actions.
I do understand traveling to a big event to be confronted with terrible or dangerous weather.. A few years ago I camped out at the spring race at Talladega and was hit with a severe thunderstorm and the possibility of tornadoes. I did not, even to friends, make any claim that the people of Alabama were putting on a debacle. The debacle was that Jeff Gordon won. This was not the beer can throwing finish.
I have been to some cities, that I will not name, where I was treated rudely by people I wasn't even trying to interact with. I will not publicly criticize the entire population of these areas.
To Mr. Kings followers who are publicly calling me stupid, the worst of the area, female body parts, etc. I don't care what you think of me. I am proud to be a life long resident of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and will defend it to the end, but in a more well thought out manner in the future. I regret and apologize for the way I said what I said, but the sentiment stands. If you don't choose to live here and you don't like us, don't come here.
